The news these days are full of articles on hate and exclusion. One group belittles and dehumanizes another group simply because they are different….different in color, beliefs, life choices, genetics or other attributes. We have strayed far beyond the guidance of almost all major religions, Yet, many still call themselves “Christians”. I beg to differ as does the recently chosen Pope.
These thoughts came to mind as I penned the following poem. I hope it gives you pause to think.
LABELS
You don’t know me yet attach a label
allowing you to treat me as the ogre in a fable.
You hide behind words meant to put me down
simply cause you’re ill at ease with me around.
You call yourself a Christian, a person of GOD;
Yet you treat me little better than a piece of sod.
Just because I’m different you mistrust and hate.
But I am a child of God; a product of love, not hate.
