Who Are you?

Sometimes we describe ourselves by what we are……nurse, educator, electrician, etc. But that’s not truly who we are. It’s a role we play, a job or a profession. If that role was removed, who would you be?

Would you be a kind and compassionate person who respects others? Or would you be an angry and discontented person taking your discontent out on all around you? Would you be carefree or regimented? Would you be comfortable or stressed?

Many people float through life from one misfortune to another without having answered that question. They say “yes” when they desire to say “No”. They follow others instead of of following their own path.

Many people are bored and adrift because the question of who they really are  and what brings them satisfaction has not been answered.

The question is, “What makes you happy?” What are your values? Do you enjoy traveling, meeting new people, cooking, gardening, volunteering, forest or beach walks?

What dream did you entertain as a child? In many cases dreams are dashed by well meaning adults in our lives. According to James Hill an in The Soul’s Code, such misdirection often leads to a midlife e crisis.

We should put those things that led us to a misdirected path behind us and we should take quiet time to uncover our true selves. We each have a unique essence and should do the work to discover our true path. Only when we love ourselves and know our true path can we be loving and supportive to others.
