The dictionary definition of travel is “to go from one place to another, typically over a distance of some length.” Or “to move typically in a constant or predictable way.”
I must admit that life intervened and I neglected to complete documenting my advance from Spain to France by train and to Normandy by river cruise. Each segment was inspiring. However, the visit to Normandy was extremely touching. To remember that thousands of our young men died for our freedom and the freedom of the world was so humbling. To walk upon those hallowed sands wrought tears.

Visiting Roen, France where Joan of Arc was incinerated not once but three times was another thought provoking visit. Recalling a teen aged female who led armies and gave her life for her country should inspire each of us to stand up now when our democracy is in danger.
So how do these places link to Mental Travel? Well, I value the physical travel and all the knowledge that it imparts about culture and history. We can grow each time we visit another locale.I hope that my grandchildren will travel widely so that they will recognize that the world is comprised of more than one country, one philosophy, one culture. Simultaneously, I recognize that each of us can travel daily… that is make progress on our mental growth by attention to nature and our fellow earthlings. Through reading, paying attention to our environment, truly listening to others and making quiet time to think and be thankful we can expand our horizons. And so some of my future posts may record mental growth as well as relating new places.
